 Controller

 

Gogebic Community College seeks candidates for a full-time Controller. This position is responsible for organizing, directing, and evaluating a wide variety of financial activities including the College’s Jenzabar system of accounting and financial control. The position is responsible for the Business Office, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Payroll, Receivables, and Auxiliary accounting.  This position reports to the Dean of Business Services.  The incumbent in this job is expected to assist the College in achieving its vision and mission. Customer focus, college service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expectations for all employees.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises and maintains quality control over the General Ledger System.
  • Responsible for the year-end audit process.
  • Prepares routine and ad hoc financial reports including analysis for administration for the College and the College Foundation.
  • Develops and administers fiscal plans, policies and procedures in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and industry best practices.
  • Prepares data for the State of Michigan Activities Classification Structure and Federal reporting agencies.
  • Manages the College’s fixed asset inventory control process, including implementing and monitoring proper labeling, tracking movements, record keeping, and disposal of assets.
  • Reviews and approves all journal entries to ensure accurate posting to the general ledger.
  • Reviews and monitors all grant expenditures in the general ledger for accuracy.
  • Provides guidance/supervision to Financial Services staff regarding customer service, problem solving, and daily duties.
  • Facilitates W-2’s, 1099’s and state and federal reports after calendar year-end.
  • Processes monthly bank reconciliations for the College accounts.
  • Reconciles payroll records for quarterly 941 deposit, bi-weekly Optional Retirement Plan requirements, and Office of Retirement Services requirements.
  • Updates monthly salary, wage, and pension analysis.
  • Verifies bi-weekly third-party adjunct payroll and monthly work-study payroll.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge of/Ability to:

  • Computerized accounting systems and spreadsheets (Jenzabar preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles and processes.
  • GAAP, GASB, cash and accrual based accounting, financial statement preparation, and fixed asset accounting required.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with database, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, project management, problem recognition, and resolution skills.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Operate PC related software.
  • Ability and experience developing, implementing and maintaining internal controls to effectively safeguard and manage fiscal resources.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required. Five years of experience in related field or a CPA with a minimum of two years of related experience.
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems and spreadsheets required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Independent problem solving, self-direction, and well established time management skills.
  • Experience providing customer service directly to end-users both physically present and remotely.

Director of the Lindquist Student Conference Center and Athletics

 

Gogebic Community College seeks candidates for a full-time Director of the Lindquist Student Conference Center and Athletics. A successful candidate will possess management, vision, entrepreneurship, mediation, organizational skills, and experience with collegiate or high school athletics. The goal at Gogebic Community College is to support the development of students' whole selves and challenge them to assume both personal and social responsibility as well as integrate community awareness, involvement, and activities. Gogebic Community College strives to create an environment wherein students possess the skills to make ethical decisions, appreciate difference, and live creative, rewarding, and purposeful lives, while balancing the needs of the community and a growing college atmosphere. The Director serves as a resource for student life outside of the classroom, promoting and encouraging a healthy balance between curricular, co-curricular athletic experiences, and serves as a community liaison. The Director reports directly to the Dean of Business for LSCC activities and the Dean of Student Services for all athletic activities.  It is important that there is recognition, acceptance, and adherence to the community college mission and philosophy from our candidate.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the total operation of the Lindquist Student and Conference Center, including the overall facilities management, college event coordination, athletic events, student life activities and programs, and community event coordination.
  • Promoting and marketing the Lindquist Student and Conference Center to the local community, state, and region with room for growth.
  • Develops, monitors, and oversees the Lindquist Student and Conference Center budget and the Athletic Department budget.
  • Trains and supervises all Lindquist Student and Conference Center staff and new athletic program employees including student work-study positions.
  • Develops policies and procedures related to the operations of the Lindquist Student and Conference Center.
  • Recommends and implements programs, building modifications, and activities designed to make the Lindquist Student and Conference Center a center of social & recreational opportunities and activities.
  • Oversees all NJCAA varsity sports and personnel.
  • Responsible for athletic compliance and serves as the liaison to the NJCAA.
  • Responsible for coordination of all formal athletic activities on campus.
  • Organizes and coordinates the varsity intramural sports program.

  • Demonstrate experience working with students.
  • Write athletic manuals and work with collegiate or high school governing athletic organizations. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, management, sports management, student development, student affairs, higher education administration or other related field.
  • Experience in post-secondary or high school athletics.
  • Supervisory experience, including hiring and training practices, and employee evaluation. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business, marketing, management, sports management, student development, student affairs, higher education administration, or other related field.
  • Experience in the role as an athletic director.
  • Demonstrated experience in event planning and implementation.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills, documentation, record keeping, and reporting.
  • Program assessment and evaluation.
