Director of Admissions, Marketing, and Community Relations
Reports to: Dean of Students
Group: Administrative
Summary: Directs all admissions and recruiting activities for the college. Serves as the central media contact point for the college and coordinates public information responsibilities with the College President.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This position has two major accountabilities – admissions and public relations.
Salary Range: $50,376 -$52,775
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Admissions:
- Plans, organizes, supervises, and performs student recruitment.
- Conducts recruitment visits to high schools throughout Northern Michigan and Wisconsin.
- Oversees a correspondence/contact program with prospective students.
- Reviews admissions application files, approves for acceptance to the college, and assigns academic advisors.
- Organizes and conducts campus tours.
- Coordinates recruitment scholarships with the Financial Aid office.
- Meets individually with prospective students and families.
- Develops and coordinates campus-wide recruiting events such as Counselor Day, The College Fair, Campus Preview Day, etc. and works with various college departments on these events.
- Performs public presentations at high schools and various recruiting events such as college and career fairs.
Public Relations:
- Directs the development, coordination, and implementation of an institutional marketing and public information plan.
- Serves as the central media contact point for the college.
- Creates and produces all printed promotional literature including the college catalog, brochures, posters, booklets, etc.
- Writes and edits all college news releases including an annual newspaper insert, the Progress Edition.
- Develops and coordinates all radio, newspaper, television, and other sources of advertising such as a college recruitment video.
- Acts as the college photographer.
- Approves all content for the official GCC website.
- Completes a wide variety of state and national survey instruments for inclusion of the college in directory guides, college publications, research, etc.
Other:
- Directs all aspects of the New Student Orientation Program.
- Assists with the intake, mid-range, and outcome measurement tool selection for the GCC assessment program.
- Coordinate the State of Michigan Civil Service testing program on campus and administer a wide variety of civil service tests.
- Coordinate other outside agency assessments such as the PPST test series.
- Assists with the coordination of the Student Recognition Ceremony, Graduation, and other campus special events.
- Participate in campus activities related to student success and retention.
- Prepares and monitors budgets, and approves expenditures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of marketing and public relations
- Operating budgets

- Secondary education systems
- Recruiting techniques
- Enrollment Management
Ability to:
- Provide technical leadership in recruiting and admissions
- Meet enrollment goals
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Operate a variety of software applications
- Maintain effective working relationships with other people
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred. Five years of experience in college student services and business/marketing. Three years in admissions, including recruiting.
Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
This position involves extensive day travel and occasional overnight travel.
