Coach: Dennis Mackey

Dennis Mackey was hired as an instructor and women’s basketball coach at Gogebic Community College prior to the 1988-89 school year. He was appointed to the Athletic Director position during the summer of 2006. He was appointed men's basketball coach during the spring of 2007.

Throughout his 19 seasons as coach, the Lady Samsons have posted a 256-227 record, winning two Region XIII championships, and advancing to the NJCAA National Tournament once (1995). Coach Mackey has twice been named Region XIII Coach of the Year.

Dennis is a graduate of Ewen-Trout Creek High School where he lettered four years in varsity basketball under Coach Tom Caudill. Following high school, Dennis attended GCC and played basketball for the Samsons under Coach Deke Routheaux in 1982-83 & 1983-84. After earning an Associate’s Degree in Business at GCC, Dennis transferred to Northern Michigan University where he completed a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration with a Management emphasis. He completed his MBA degree at Lake Superior State University in 1993.

Coach Mackey is also a business instructor at Gogebic Community College. He primarily teaches accounting and economics at this time, but has also taught other business and math courses throughout his tenure at GCC. Dennis resides in Ironwood with his wife Andrea and their three children Caitlin, Jessica, & Adam.
