1. What do I need to do to get started in the pre- nursing program?

  • Apply to Gogebic Community College (on-line application available) $10.00 fee
  • Have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher.
  • Send us your transcripts from high school and any colleges you attended. (Must be originals)
  • Meet with your advisor to evaluate your past courses and plan for the future

2. How long does it take to become an LPN?

  • Full time LPN program (3 semesters)
  • Part time LPN program (5 semesters)

3.When can I start the Nursing program?

When you meet all the requirements you can start:

  • Ironwood – Full time program two options: June or August start
  • Houghton – Full time – June start
  • Ironwood – Part time - Limited amount of students accepted for Fall Semester.
  • Houghton - Part time - Limited amount of students accepted for Fall Semester.

4. Are all the nursing classes during the day?

Full time program – Yes, classes are during the day. You may have clinical (working in the hospital) during the evening in the second semester.

5. How much is the program going to cost?

Total estimated cost of the Practical Nursing program is $9,000 to $10,500. This includes lab fees, books, etc.

Total estimated cost of the ADN Program is $7,000 to $8,000.

Tuition can vary depending on residency.

6. Can I still work full time and go to school?

It is recommended that you work less than 16 hours/week while taking classes.

7. How do I register for classes?

You will be assigned an Advisor who will help you select and register for the classes you need.

8. Where do we go for clinical?

Your nursing instructor will assign a nursing home and hospital in your area.

9. What do I need to do to get in the ADN program?

  • Admission contingent upon completion of LPN program and passing boards
    Or
    Currently be licensed as an LPN
  • GPA in nursing courses of 3.0
  • Application deadline of February 15
  • Admission based on highest to lowest GP
  • 60 students will be admitted

10. Is there a part time program for the LPN?

Limited spaces in the Part time program are available starting every fall.

13. Is housing available?

Yes. There are Campus Suites on Campus.

14. How many students do you accept?

We accept 30 students at both the Houghton and Ironwood locations Fall semester. An additional 30 students are accepted into the Ironwood program for Spring semester. We accept 60 students to the ADN (Associate Degree Nursing) program.

15. How do I know when I am accepted in the program?

You will be notified by a letter of acceptance.

16. Are there other programs in health care other than nursing?

Yes we also have programs for Emergency Medical Technician (EMS Basic), Paramedic, and Certified Nursing Assistant.
