What is a Certified Nursing Assistant? CNA
Certified nursing assistants (CNA’S), also known as nurses aides, orderlies, patient care technicians and home health aides, work under the supervision of a nurse and provide assistance to patients with daily living tasks.
Working closely with patients, CNAs are responsible for basic care services such as bathing, grooming, and feeding patients, assisting nurses with medical equipment, and checking patient vital signs. CNA’s give patients important social and emotional support and also provide vital information on patient conditions to nurses.

- 80 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction.
- 40 hours of clinical training.
- Eligible for WIA funding (Call Michigan Works to see if you are eligible.)
- Classes meet on a part time basis.
- Course fee is $1025. This includes tuition, lab fees and handouts. (Text books can be purchased at GCC book store.)
- Additional Expenses – uniforms, shoes, computerized exam, and clinic skills competency test.

NOTE: If you are not eligible for funding from Michigan Works or CEP (WI), you may be eligible for partial or full reimbursement for the cost of the program if you are employed by a nursing home facility within a year of training. You will need to discuss that with individual nursing home facilities.
